A love letter to the WSL

As the final whistle blew on another thrilling Women's Super League season, it felt like more than just the end of a football campaign. This season wasn't only about title races, dramatic goals, or packed-out stadiums; it represented a larger movement within women's football and the culture surrounding it.
This year felt like an evolution.

Over the last few years, women's football has steadily grown in visibility, but this season felt different.

Bigger. Louder. More permanent.

Whether it was sold-out derby days, clips of match-winning moments all over TikTok, or fans (and not just female ones) proudly wearing football shirts as part of everyday fashion, the WSL became more than a league people occasionally checked in on. For many girls and young women, it became part of their identity and community.

That growth could be seen everywhere. Attendances continued to rise, social media engagement felt stronger than ever, and conversations around the league reached far beyond traditional football audiences. The rise of women's football culture online has also played a huge role in making the sport feel more accessible. Suddenly, football spaces that once felt intimidating to many girls became welcoming, exciting, and aspirational.

Of course, the football itself delivered too.
The title race kept fans invested, while individual performances across the league continued to prove the depth of talent within the women's game. Players are no longer just athletes to admire from afar; they are becoming role models, style influences, and voices that young women genuinely connect with.

But perhaps the most important part of this season has been the sense of belonging it has created.

For a long time, football culture often felt like something girls had to fight to be included in. Now, a new generation of fans is reshaping what that culture looks like. Girls are showing up to matches together, creating online communities, hosting watch parties, and finding confidence through sport in ways that feel both modern and deeply personal.

The WSL is still growing. Literally, the league expansion has caused some shuffling, but it creates space for even more progress in areas such as investment across the game, media coverage, and equal opportunities.

And maybe that's what made this season feel so special.
New champions on the throne. New teams in the league. More role models and GROWTH.

Not because women's football suddenly arrived, but because it continued to grow into something that so many girls can now see themselves within.

I truly do love this sport, and watching it grow so fast is amazing.
